Thesis/ Internship/ Working Student - Simulation & Virtual Validation for AD/ADAS Systems

______

Students   —  Thesis; Internship; Working Student

Gifhorn

This challenge awaits you:

Virtual development is becoming a key technology for the efficient, scalable, and cost-effective testing of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Autonomous Driving (AD) features. Simulation allows early system validation without the need for costly prototypes and enables the safe evaluation of complex driving scenarios.
We offer motivated students the opportunity to work on exciting topics in the field of virtual validation as part of a Master Thesis, Internship or as a Working Student for the following topics:

Your Tasks:

1) High-Fidelity Environment Modeling in Unreal Engine 5:
In this topic, you will use Unreal Engine to create photorealistic virtual environments for testing camera-based AD/ADAS systems. Prior experiences in Unreal Engine modeling is required, making it ideal for students in gaming development and media technology study fields, interested in AD/ADAS applications.

Your tasks will include but are not limited to:

  • Building detailed 3D environments and setup relevant scenarios, including roads, infrastructure, vehicles, and pedestrians for simulating diverse weather and lighting conditions
  • Test of evaluation of high-fidelity models in available HiL and SiL testing systems

2) Model-Based System Validation: Perception and System-Level Testing:
In this topic, you will work on virtual validation including perception systems and overall AD/ADAS functionalities using model-based approaches. Your tasks will include but are not limited to:

  • Simulating virtual radar and LiDAR sensors to provide realistic perception data (e.g., reflections, occlusions, weather effects).
  • Developing and integrating behavior models of AD/ADAS systems in available SiL & HiL systems
  • Analyzing the system's behavior and perception performance under different virtual driving scenarios

Contact us for more information and to tailor topics to your study focus and goals (master thesis, internship, etc.).

Necessary Skills:

  • Ongoing studies in Computer Science, Robotics, Mechatronics, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. Also, Media Technology, Gaming, Game Design and Development for topic 1
  • Pre-experiences in 3D environment modeling and asset simulation in Unreal Engine 5 is mandatory for topic number 1
  • Motivation to work independently and explore innovative technical solutions

Desired Skills:

  • Experiences with simulation software like, dSPACE ModelDesk and Aurelion, IPG CarMaker, MATLAB, etc.

Remuneration is based on our collective wage and salary agreement. The current hourly wage for this position is EUR 17.52. The internship/ final thesis is remunerated with a monthly salary of EUR 979.00.
