Thesis - SoM Interface Definition for Hardware Platforms

______

Students   —  Thesis

This challenge awaits you:

Increasingly shorter development and acquisition cycles require quick responses to customer needs. The range of available controllers is enormous and is continuously being expanded by well-known manufacturers with additional derivatives offering higher performance, extended features or more cost-effective configurations. Often, at the start of a requested series project, the optimal controller is only just before SoP, meaning that related controllers from the respective family have to be used to start development.

A standardized SoM interface helps to establish this flexibility in the development process. This interface is to be defined and established by way of example on the basis of extensive research into the portfolios of major component manufacturers and available SoMs. Coordination with the needs of potential development projects ensures the practical relevance of this definition.

Your Tasks:

  • You analyze commercially available SoM modules of current microcontrollers
  • You evaluate them in the context of different development projects
  • You define a standardized SoM interface for prototype development requirements
  • You implement the design of a SoM interface by way of example in Altium Designer

Necessary Skills:

  • Ongoing studies in electrical engineering or a comparable degree program
  • Confident use of the MS Office software package
  • Analytical skills and a structured approach to working with data sheets and application notes
  • Good German and very good English skills

Desired Skills:

  • Experience in the development of electronic components as well as in the use of EDA programs such as Altium Designer
  • Willingness to learn, motivation and initiative as well as an independent and structured way of working
  • Teamwork skills, communication skills and creativity
