By working on modern vehicle electronics, you will establish cross-departmental contacts with experts from various departments at IAV and continually develop yourself further.

The tasks of the Infotainment Systems Engineering department at IAV GmbH are the collection and evaluation of data signals as well as the automation of update processes for complex systems. An essential part of these tasks is the acquisition and evaluation of data signals. This requires a system that is able to efficiently record and process data from bus and CAN signals.

Aim of the final thesis:

- Development of a system for data acquisition of bus and CAN signals using a microcontroller
- Testing and fixing any errors that occur
- Documentation of results
- Assessment of the potential and vulnerabilities of the system

Your Tasks:

  • You carry out familiarization and research into existing data recording systems.
  • You develop several concepts for implementing the data recording system and carry out a benefit analysis to identify the optimal concept.
  • You develop a functional prototype system to demonstrate feasibility.
  • You develop and implement a measurement concept based on a microcontroller for data acquisition from various CAN bus systems in the vehicle.
  • You create and implement a test plan based on common test models and fix any errors that occur.
  • You document the results.
  • You carry out a potential and weak point analysis of the developed system.

Necessary Skills:

  • Ongoing study of computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or a comparable course of study
  • Experience in the automotive environment, ideally in the area of ​​infotainment and connected cars
  • Programming knowledge and confident use of common programming languages
  • Confident use of MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering and communication technology
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to analyze and solve complex problems
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a team
  • German language skills at C1 level

Desired Skills:

  • Expertise in using microcontrollers such as Arduino or Raspberry Pi

  • Enthusiasm for complex issues and their presentation as well as neat preparation

  • Motivation and independent action in an agile development environment

  • High degree of initiative, open-mindedness and ability to work in a team

  • Basic knowledge of MS Azure (Jira, Confluence)
